NHI Lookup

NHI Lookup

To enable NHI Lookup you need to request credentials from the Ministry of Health first.

1. Fill out the Ministry of Health Application Form then send to NHI_Access@health.govt.nz

2. They will email you back with your credentials, containing:

   • ClientId
   • ClientSecret
   • APIKey

   Note

   In the email they send you, the credentials start with **** - Replace these stars with the first part of the credentials that will have been sent to you in a text message. Combined, this makes up the full credentials.

   Eg Text Message: abc123456 + Email ********eu0aw6thai9feig2yaer combined make abc123456eu0aw6thai9feig2yaer which you enter in Elixir.

   Important

   It is easy to make transcription errors when typing in the values. We recommend forwarding the text message to yourself via email so you can copy & paste the values together to avoid mistaking I vs l vs 1

3. In Elixir > Admin > NHI Lookup, enter your credentails and press Save.

   

4. When creating or editing a patient you can fill out the below details then press Lookup NHI to find the patients NHI:

   • Firstname
   • Middlename (Optional)
   • Lastname
   • Date Of Birth
   • Gender (Optional)
