Dymo Check Environment Failed Error
If an Elixir error message "Check Environment Failed" pops up when trying to print a label please try the following:
-
Ensure you have installed Dymo Connect
-
Try restarting your computer
-
Ensure you can print a label manually from the Dymo Connect software on your computer. This validates your label printer is connected and operational.
If the Dymo Connect software cannot print a label, this indicates there is a hardware or computer issue. Please contact your IT Support to get this operational.
Elixir does not provide hardware support. -
Go through the following steps:
Windows PC
Ensure the Dymo Connect Web Service is running as (Administrator) not (User).
Go to the bottom right-hand corner of your screen beside the time and locate the Dymo icon. You may need to click on the up arrow ^
to Show Hidden Icons.
If it says (User) as per the picture above, complete the following steps:
-
Right Click on the Dymo icon and choose the option “Exit”. You should see the Dymo icon disappear.
-
Open your Start Menu and type “Dymo Connect Web Service”. This should search and locate the “Dymo Connect Web Service” app.
Warning
Ensure you have located Dymo Connect Web Service. Not just Dymo Connect.
-
Once “Dymo Connect Web Service” is selected, click “Run as administrator” in the sub-menu.
-
Hover over the Dymo icon at the bottom right corner of your screen again and ensure it says (Administrator) at the end.
-
Refresh the Elixir web page you have opened and retry printing a label.
Tip
If your Dymo label printer continues to bring up an error message, try the following advanced instructions. You may require assistance from your IT Support organisation.
.NET Framework errors
We have received some reports that certain Windows updates can create issues with the .NET config. If you are running the dymo service as Administrator, and still getting "Check environment failed" you may need to reinstall .NET then reinstall the Dymo software.
Enable the web service to always load as Administrator
Locate the Dymo Web Service exe file, usually C:\Program Files (x86)\DYMO\DYMO Connect\DYMO.WebApi.Win.Host.exe
Right click and choose properties
Open the Compatibility tab and select Change settings for all users
Tick Run this program as an administrator
Press OK and OK to close the Properties box.
Restart your computer. You’ll be prompted to approve running the Dymo Web Service as Administrator on startup, approve this whenever your computer restarts.
Configure the web service to run as a Windows Service
This method might be more useful when you don’t have Local Administrator rights on your computer. You may require support from your IT team to follow these steps.
Disable the normal web service starting from Task Manager > Startup Apps.
If the local user does not have permissions to disable startup items use https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/autoruns to disable it from starting.
Exit Dymo web service from system tray
Download the latest NSSM from https://nssm.cc/ eg https://nssm.cc/release/nssm-2.24.zip
Extract to C:\nssm
Open CMD.exe (Command Prompt) as Administrator, run
C:\nssm\nssm-2.24\win32\nssm.exe install dymo-webservice
Set the Path to: C:\Program Files (x86)\DYMO\DYMO Connect\DYMO.WebApi.Win.Host.exe
Configure to Login as Administrator (enter an Administrators credentials)
Start the service from Windows Services.

Dymo Connect Service TrustFailure
There are some cases where the certificates are not correctly installed. If you click on the Dymo Connect item in the notification area (top right of your screen), then click diagnose, it should say Dymo Connect Service is running on port 41951.
If you see the error: TrustFailure (Authentication failed, see inner exception) - please follow the instructions below.
Open Keychain Access from Finder > Applications > Utilities
Search for Dymo
Right click on the DYMO Root CA and choose Get Info
Expand the Trust section and set it to Always Trust for all options. Enter your Mac password when asked.
Search for Localhost and repeat the Always Trust process
Ensure both certificates are now showing as trusted
Stop the Dymo service from the notification area.
Start the service, choose diagnose, and ensure it is now saying Dymo Connect Service is running on port 41951.
